One of well-loved icons in the music industry, Michael Jackson, passed away on June 25, 2009. Jackson died while he was rehearsing for his comeback concert series. Hours of practice footage was captured and converted into a motion picture. It is expected that once released on DVD, many millions of people around the planet will buy, “This Is It” as a treasured remembrance. The picture premiered on October 28. To fill worldwide demand, an audio CD was also released to accompany the run of the picture. The DVD was to be released in time for Christmas 2009.

Jackson has an enduring legacy which began in 1964 as he and his brothers formed the Jackson 5. The band is recognized for many pop songs like the subsequent tracks: “I Want You Back,” “The Love You Save,” and “ABC.” While the group did not formally split up until a few years later on, Michael Jackson began his solo career in 1971.

The King of Pop, as he was identified, was born with the release of compilation “Thriller” in 1982. Even up to this day, the “Thriller” LP continues to hold claim to the title of Best Selling Album of All-Time. In addition to this honor, 4 of his other record releases rank among the best selling records of all time. These are the 4 records (in chronological order): “Off The Wall,” “Bad,” “Dangerous,” and “HIStory.” Along with record titles, Jackson also holds title to 17 number one songs.

Michael Jacksonhas the unusual honor of two times having been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He has also gotten 13 Grammy Awards and 22 American Music Awards.

The release of the new Michael Jackson motion picture, This Is It, has been met with enormous interest by society. The motion picture has performed well at the box office domestically in the United States. However it is internationally where the film has really done well. Typically major Hollywood movie releases will make as much cash in the USA as they make in the rest of the world. This film has performed differently. The film has made much more cash worldwide at the box office than it has made in the USA. As of November 26, the USA box office was slightly over $70M, and the international box office totaled more than $168M. This means that this film has made more than two times as much worldwide as it made in the United States. This is a clear sign as to how big and far reaching Michael Jackson’s reputation has been.

Look for the motion picture to be available on DVD in time for Christmas. It will make a nice present for you or for a Michael Jackson admirer.
