In 2003, an arrest warrant was issued for Michael Jackson on child molestation charges. He was handcuffed and booked on suspicion of child molestation. Humankind questions his innocence, is Michael Peter Pan or a Pirate?

Born the youngest brother of five on 29th August 1958, Michael at the age of four joined his brothers to form a group called the Jackson 5. A group whose music, filled with boundless energy, touched the hearts and souls of the world and when their song “I Want You Back” hit number one on the charts they became history, known as the sound of young America.

In 1972 Michael had his first solo hit called “Ben”, a love song to his pet rat. Incredibly talented Michael went on to be a legendary figure in the entertainment industry, with the achievement of a Grammy legend award, his album Invincible being inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame as a solo artist. Michael achieved great wealth, and was able to indulge in a fantasy world that he created. In 1988, Michael moved into a ranch that he turned into a kingdom of dreams and magic, calling it Neverland, based on the classic children’s story “Peter Pan”. Neverland had amusement parks, video game rooms, screening rooms, train rides and a petting zoo. It was a place that could make an impression on all ages with the ability to unlock the imagination. Where time stands still there is no hunger, violence or illness. Also, Michael, through his great wealth, was able to fulfill his lifelong commitment to children and their issues. He combined his love of performing with his desire to help ill and needy children of this world, not only donating his money but also his time and attention.

Throughout Michael’s career he has, whilst on tour, still found time to visit children’s hospitals distributing gifts, hold charity benefits in between concerts and send messages and flowers all over the world. One example of this is in 1996 when a British fan, 11 year old Jaymee Bowen lost her battle with leukemia Michael sent a message which read ” May your Courage be an inspiration to us all. Your spirit shines on”. Because of his humanitarian commitment Michael founded the “Heal the world foundation” to aid children and the environment, whose goals are to provide medicine and services for disadvantaged children, fight hunger, drug and alcohol abuse and child abuse. Throughout the years Michael’s great wealth and fame made him a target of pirates such as the media and more recently his accusers. Pirates who would either steal or profit from his fame and fortune.

As is still the case today even after Michael was found innocent of all charges on 13th June, 2005, the media still continue to make money off his name. Their most recent being an article on his parental abilities titled ” Jacko’s Prisoners”, New Idea, June 25 2005. Why would Michael want to expose his children to those pirates? Neverland showed Michael’s focus on children especially the sick children and his dream to make a better life for them, where he installed hospital beds for the bedridden who were on intravenous drips. Bed that had buttons to help the children move the beds up and down, enabling them to watch the movies and escape to a world of magic. a world that he was deprived of when he was young because of his career.

I think there is no doubt who in this case is Peter Pan and where the title of pirate should be placed. Michael’s essence was best represented by David Friend when he wrote an article on Neverland for life magazine, ” It is here, standing next to hospital beds, that one understands the essence of Neverland and it’s owner, amusement is hardly the point of the place. This is actually the world Jackson would fashion were it left in his charge, safe and clan and timeless as a fable”. Perhaps humankind’s message to Michael should be: “we admire your unique portrayal of Peter Pan, may this spirit shine on.”
