How much plastic surgery did Michael Jackson undergo? This really is a million dollar question. While Michael Jackson only admits to ever undergoing cosmetic surgery twice on his nose, a line-up of photos from 1979 to 2009 shows a very different story. Aside from rhinoplasty, a common cosmetic surgery to change the shape of the nose, it is reported that Michael Jackson had a series of procedures ranging from a chin implant to permanent make-up.
Skin Disease
To explain how his skin transformed from dark to light, Michael Jackson claimed to have a skin condition called vitiligo, which causes patches of the skin to lose pigment. This condition is obviously more noticeable in people with dark skin. To avoid the necessity wearing heavy make-up, he may have undergone phototherapy treatments or skin creams to permanently even out the color of his skin.
Rhinoplasty and Reconstruction
The most obvious and controversial of his cosmetic decisions was the excessive rhinoplasty operations that eventually left him with almost no nose at all. The cartilage in his nose was thinned out to such a degree that his nose was apparently in danger of collapsing before being rebuilt in 2004.
Photographs prior to this reconstruction show Michael Jackson with a tip that looked like it was missing or perhaps even fake. There are conflicting stories about how his nose was rebuilt. Some news reports say that it was rebuilt by a German plastic surgeon using cartilage from his ear. Other stories claim that his dermatologist rebuilt it using fillers.
Facial Transformation
In addition to the rhinoplasty procedures, it would seem that Michael Jackson’s face went through many other transformations. In the early 90s, the shape of his jaw line became noticeably boxier, and his chin suddenly appeared with a cleft in it. By the late 90s his cheek bones protruded noticeably, and his jaw was now narrower. He also appeared to have had a facelift sometime early in the new millennium.
The photographs of Michael Jackson’s changing face are quite fascinating. He is a perfect example of what can be done with modern cosmetic surgery. Facelifts, cheek implants, chin implants, as well as permanent make-up around the eyes, can have a very dramatic impact on a person’s appearance.
Though it is rumored that Michael Jackson was addicted to plastic surgery and that his excessive use of rhinoplasty had a negative impact over the years, there are many benefits to being able to change one’s appearance so drastically. It can restore a sense of self-confidence, as well as create a feeling of restored youth and vitality.
