Ah, the new full-length trailer for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows , which has been split into two parts and is ever so slightly anticipated as the finale to the blockbuster franchise (or ‘global phenomenon’, depending on how you prefer your hyperbole). There certainly is a real sense of occasion here; following the characters over the course of what will be eight movies, and seeing the main actors literally grow into adults before our very eyes, reflecting the same journey for much of the audience. I’m no J. K. Rowling devotee and even I can’t wait, so goodness knows how diehard Harry Potter fans are coping: are they even able to leave the house at the moment? (Release dates: November 19 2010 and July 15 2011)

Despicable Me has a trailer notable for its use of the song Little Green Bag , which for a generation such as myself is inextricably linked to Quentin Tarantino’s first flick Reservoir Dogs . So will this family-friendly animated romp also contain ear-slicing gangsters turning on each other with feral gusto? Unfortunately the answer is probably no. Still, there’s a talented voice cast including Steve Carell (who hatches a plot to become the world’s greatest super-villain), Julie Andrews and Russell Brand, so it’s not all bad news. (Release date: October 15)

Now, what could be more grisly from this week’s cinema releases: a new horror movie by writers from the Saw series, or a new Woody Allen effort that sees a man in his sixties hopping into the sack with a girl a third his age? Hmm, you decide…

The trailer for The Collector doesn’t give too much away. Something to do with a burglar breaking into a house, only to realise its occupants are being held hostage by some sort of gruesome trap-setting psycho. Sounds like an episode of Location Location where Kirstie and Phil have to find a suitable abode for Jigsaw from the Saw movies, which is something I might actually pay to see. (Release date: out now)

Then the latest Woody Allen movie Whatever Works , this one returning to New York after his (somewhat successful) foreign sojourns. This should benefit from the presence of Curb Your Enthusiasm comic genius Larry David, though the broad trailer doesn’t look too promising, descending into the sort of hammy farce that (with good reason) went out of style at least a decade or two ago. (Release date: out now)

What’s the best thing to do when your daughter’s about to get married to a complete bozo? The answer according to romantic comedy Heartbreaker : hire a professional to seduce your child and leave her in ruins. Why, of course! There’s a promising cast that features The Beat That My Heart Skipped actor Romain Duris,  Vanessa Paradis and Andrew Lincoln, though the fact that the trailer doesn’t want the audience to realise that the film’s in French – instead opting for an abysmal American voiceover and using (I’ve Had) The Time of My Life  as a soundtrack – doesn’t bode so well. (Release date: July 2)
