The 14th Screen Actors Guild Award on 27th January 2008 marks the 75th anniversary of the Screen Actors Guild. This prestigious award, where actors vote for actors started off with testimonials by some of the members of the guild and each time they will end their testimonial by saying ‘I am an actor’ proudly.

Then, the awards giving ceremony started with Steve Carell and Tina Fey, both from The Office and 30 Rock respectively, giving out the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series Award. This award is won by James Grandolfini who plays Tony Soprano in The Sopranos. James was shocked to know that he had won the first award and said, ” I didn’t know this was the first award. Man, this is kind of freaky.” Next, Nikki Blonsky and John Travolta, both from Hairspray stated the nomination of Hairspray for the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture Award. After that, another cast of Hairspray, Zac Efron together with Debra Messing gives out the next award. The Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series is won by Edie Falco, who is also from The Sopranos. Then, to bring us back in time to the history of the Screen Actors Guild, a video of Blair Underwood explaining a brief history of the guild was shown. Continuing with the awards giving ceremony, Vanessa Williams from Ugly Betty and William Peterson from CSI: Crime Scene Investigation presented the next award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series. Since the casts of The Sopranos had won the first two awards, there’s no doubt that they’ll also win this award. This is their second time winning this award. Thus, they have dominated the drama genre for this year.

After that, two casts of Into The Wild, Emile Hirsch and Hal Holbrook introduced Into The Wild as one of the nominations for the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture Award. Then, Javier Bardem was awarded the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role for his role as Anton Chigurh in the movie, No Country For Old Man.

Diving into the comedy category, Chandra Wilson and Eric Dane, both from Grey’s Anatomy presented the award for the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series. And the actor goes to…Tina Fey for her performance in 30 Rock as Liz Lemon. She ended her acceptance speech by thanking the Screen Actors Guild for supporting the Writers Guild of America, which she is also a member of. Next, the award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series was presented by James Marsden and Kate Beckinsale, who are from Hairspray and Vacancy respectively. The award also goes to a cast of 30 Rock, Alec Baldwin who plays Jack Donaghy. Unfortunately, he could not be there to receive the award. Then, Russell Crowe indicates American Gangster as a nomination for the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture Award. Up next, Micheal C. Hall and Jeanne Tripplehorn gives out the award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. After watching The Sopranos dominating the drama genre, you would think that 30 Rock would dominate the comedy genre, but the award goes to the cast of The Office. Then again, some people might not be surprised as this is their second consecutive win.

Before he became an actor, he was a dancer, a boxer, and even a World War II veteran. Ben Foster who acts as Charlie Prince in 3:10 to Yuma includes the movie as one of the nominees for the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. The Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries is next and is presented by the 87 years old, Mickey Rooney.
