East meets North as the cinematic sequences in Eidos Montreal’s latest titles mark the first collaboration between Square Enix and Canada.

Japanese developer and publisher Square Enix is working with newly-acquired subsidiary studio Eidos Montreal to produce the cinematic sequences for the upcoming Deus Ex 3 according to recent statements published by Edge.

Square Enix is known for their work on the Final Fantasy franchise, a series of traditional role-playing games famous for their high-quality cinematic sequences. According to Eidos Montreal general manager Stephane D’Astous, it was this reputation that first sparked the collaboration. “I was trying to think of a project we could do together,” D’Astous told Edge. “One morning I woke up and I said well, they’re known for their cinematics, so why not get them involved with those?”

Very few details have been made public regarding the upcoming Deus Ex 3 beyond it’s setting as a prequel to Warren Spector’s award-winning Deus Ex, and that it will be available at least on PC sometime in 2010. Beyond that, all we know is that the folks behind Final Fantasy are grateful to finally be working on something new.
