It’s not so easy to break into show business. You’ve heard of artists forever hoping to get their big break and end up with unrealized dreams. It’s also possible that once you’ve attained that fame, if you’re not too careful, it may eventually or instantly fizzle out. That is not the case with the Jonas Brothers, one of America’s most popular boy bands. Read on to find out how the Jonas brothers got their start and how they’ve made it big.
Boy bands will never really fade from the music industry. For every generation, you’ll find many different styles and music. For this new and younger generation, the Jonas Brothers are following in the footsteps of the Hansons and McFly. The Jonas Brothers band is, as you may surmise, composed of brothers Kevin, Joseph and Nicholas . Though they are now a great and popular band, their origins are very simple.
It all started with Nicholas (or Nick), who has shown a more than passing interest in music since he was 7. He was already participating in several plays in Broadway like “A Christmas Carol”, “Beauty and the Beast” and “Les Miserables”. At the time that he was playing “Chip” in “Beauty and the Beast”, he wrote a song for his father entitled, “Joy to the World (A Christmas Prayer)”. This song, which he sang with the Beauty and the Beast cast, was recorded as part of Broadway’s 2002 Equity Fights AIDS Album, “Broadway’s Greatest Gifts: Carols for a Cure, Vol. 4″, which was then picked up by INO Records and released over Christian radio airwaves, earning a spot on Record & Radio’s Christian Adult Contemporary Chart.
Columbia Records got wind of this song and proceeded to sign Nick up jointly with INO Records. A new single was a product of this union, called “Dear God”, followed quickly by his solo rendition of “Joy to the World (A Christmas Prayer)”. The third album, which should have been his self-titled solo debut, was pushed back and it was rather unfortunate because his brothers also helped write songs for the album.
The break for the brothers came when new Columbia Records President Steve Greenberg heard the song, “Please be Mine” that the brothers sang together. It was then that they were signed as a 3-man group. They were under Columbia Records from 2005 up to 2007 and during this time, they were on the touring scene as front acts for Kelly Clarkson, Jesse McCartney and the Backstreet Boys. Their album, “It’s About Time” was released in August 2006 after being pushed back in favor of having another lead single on the album. In the meantime, they produced several singles and appeared on various soundtrack albums for Nickelodeon and Disney channel programs.
When they got dropped by Columbia, they signed with Hollywood Records, a Disney company and were thus most often seen in Disney shows like Hannah Montana. They were also able to release a second self-titled album in 2007 and kicked off a tour entitled, “Look Me in the Eyes” whose songs were meant for a third album (A Little Bit Longer) release. During this tour, they were also filmed as part of the Disney reality series called “Jonas Brothers: Living the Dream”. Their film debut was captured in “Camp Rock” also under Disney productions.
